In 2012, Smeg, the historic Italian appliance company known for its strong connection to aesthetics, art, and culture, sought to create a new line of small domestic appliances. The objective was to develop a collection that seamlessly aligned with the existing FAB line while establishing its own distinct character and identity.

Our vision was to draw inspiration from memory, referencing the shapes of early kitchen devices and reinterpreting them through a contemporary lens. A clear guiding principle drove the project: to make the objects feel as if they had always existed, evoking a sense of familiarity that establishes an immediate emotional connection with the user. The foundational geometry was based on a superellipse—a mathematical shape conveying balance and lightness.

The final collection is defined by distinctive details, such as chrome-finished feet and the iconic spherical lever that transform a purely functional element into an expressive signature feature. Simplicity remains the key to these products, extending from the purity of their forms to the clarity of the user experience. Today, this family of small appliances feels natural in both presence and use, standing as one of the most recognizable ranges worldwide and accounting for a majority of the company’s overall revenue.
